It may be right in the middle of holiday season, which might influence your answer, but which do you prefer more: holidays or Christmas? If you answered holidays then you are not alone. According to a new survey, 55.7% of people look forward more to their summer break than they do the Christmas period.
It turns out that getting away from it all once a year is more appealing than presents, turkey and carol singing. Christmas only came in with 27% of the vote for what people most look forward to each year. Although they might not be saying that on Christmas Eve when they are waiting for Santa to visit.
Other events that people looked forward to throughout the year included birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. Part of the appeal of the holiday may be the length. A good summer break can last two weeks, compared to the few days of Christmas or a single evening on a birthday night out. However, apparently only 40% of us are completely happy with our holiday when we get back.
Steve Byrne, the managing director of Travel Counsellors said: “It is no surprise that consumers prioritise holidays so highly, but what has amazed us is the level of satisfaction”.
With 12% of people choosing their destinations thanks to recommendations or reviews, it would be a good idea to do some more research next time.
With so much anticipation and so much at stake on a holiday, it is always a good idea to look into where you are going and make sure you have the best travel insurance before you go. That way, should it be a disaster or the worst happens you at least know you are covered. Plus, there is always still Christmas to look forward to later in the year, so all is not lost if your holiday doesn’t go according to plan.
