Gone Girl tops list of books left on flights

Getting our holiday reading lists organised is almost as important as ensuring that we have the right holiday wardrobe items packed creatively into our carry on cases.

If we’re making a beeline for a beach break this summer it’s likely that they’ll be very little on our agenda apart from topping up our tans and frolicking in the sea. This means that they’ll be plenty of time to dedicate to getting through our oft neglected stack of books. After all what could be a more perfect environment for a spot of page turning than a day spent getting some much needed R & R under a beach umbrella?

In fact a book in hand is so integral to the holiday experience that a OnePoll survey of 1,000 people conducted by British Airways (BA) revealed that 80% feel it’s one of central ways to unwind on holiday. The same survey shows that physical books (three in five) still trump e-readers (one in five) when it comes to the most popular form of reading.

Gone Girl tops the list of popular holiday reads And what are the titles that we just can’t do without on holiday? Well according to BA’s ranking of the top 10 books most commonly left on flights over the past three months, Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn comes in at number one.

Thrillers continued to dominate the top ten, with the ranking completed by the following titles: King and Maxwell Series, David Baldacci (Thriller), The Fault in our Stars, John Green (Novel), Capital in the Twenty-First Century, Thomas Piketty (Business/Economics), Alex Cross, Run – James Patterson (Thriller), The Luminaries, Eleanor Catton (Novel), Michael Lewis, Flash Boys (Non-fiction), Fifty Shades of Grey (Freed), EL James (Romance), Arthur Conan Doyle, The Complete Sherlock Holmes (Novel), The Racketeer, John Grisham (Thriller). If you are heading off on holiday in the coming weeks and months, it’s important to ensure that your holiday items are covered by your travel insurance policy.
