Date Created: 05 January 2015

Down Town Fort Myers is Florida’s secret destination.  Handily situated on the Sunshine State’s West coast and two hours from Tampa airport or Miami on the East coast, it’s the gateway to some of Florida’s blockbuster attractions including Disneyland, Seaworld and Universal Studios in Orlando just over three hours drive away. Having experienced these state of the art thrills, Fort Myers is the place to relax and explore authentic old Florida.

Downtown Fort Myers is a riverside village comprising recently restored palm lined turn of the century boulevards featuring handsome Art Deco architecture, genuine Hollywood style Neon lights and great restaurants.

Fort myers

During the late nineteenth century, the three leaders of American industry, scientist and inventor Thomas Edison, American auto pioneer Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone, began spending the winters in Fort Myers. Edison and Ford established elegant neighbouring winter homes near the Down Town area which are now open to the public. Americans based in the northern regions soon followed suit, lured by the temperate winter climate, miles of glorious beaches and the beautiful islands of Sanibel and Captiva.  Famous for their shoals of shells, these romantic beaches are perfect for swimming, watching dolphins play and those incomparable Florida sunsets.  For a change of scenery, take the high speed Key West Express ferry from Fort Myers’ fabulous beach and you can be in the Florida Keys within two hours.

Entertainment in the Down Town Riverside District include everything from Bike Night (Harleys, leathers and live music}in May to music festivals in Centennial Park. Every Friday, enjoy free music in the town square and on the first Friday of every month a lively evening Art Walk offers street theatre, music and a carnival atmosphere.
