Ishigaki Island in Japan is 2018’s must visit destination, according to opinions and feedback provided by travellers from around the globe.
TripAdvisor has named the island as the top destination of 2018, based on traveller’s reviews on attractions, restaurants and accommodation, as well as overall booking interest.
With white sandy beaches, and a beautiful landscape, it’s not surprising that Ishigaki Island is popular among holidaymakers.
According to TripAdvisor, the average hotel price on the island currently stands at £114 per night, however you can get cheaper accommodation for £87 a night.
Kapaa in Hawaii was named in second place, followed by the Kenyan capital Nairobi – thanks to its diverse wildlife and safari expeditions.
For those not looking to travel too far, a number of European destinations also made the list, including Nerja in Spain, Gdansk in Poland and Riga in Latvia.
Eastern European countries have become hugely popular among tourists in recent years, as they offer a cheap and yet satisfying holiday destination.
A hotel in Gdansk costs an average of £47, while a return flight can cost as little as £116, making it an attractive option for travellers on a budget.
Rovinj, Croatia also made the list in eighth place, as travellers cited its cobbled streets and piazzas as huge draws for travellers looking to explore somewhere off the beaten track.
“While this year’s results show a broad spread of the world represented, with winners located in five different continents, it’s Eastern Europe which is dominating as a 2018 hotspot,” said a TripAdvisor spokesperson.
Taking up the rest of the spots were Halifax Canada; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Casablanca, Morocco; finishing in fourth, sixth and tenth respectively.
If you’re planning a holiday to one of these destinations, make sure you organise your travel insurance in advance.
