Holiday makers all travel for different reasons, whether it’s for a relaxing break, vibrant nightlife or some adrenaline filled activities, but with such a wide range of choice it can be tough to know exactly where exactly the best destination is.
However, there is no need to panic! Lonely Planet has put together a list which shows the best places to go for each of your travel desires in The Cities Book - A Journey Through the Best Cities in The World.
Family breaks
Selecting the right destination for a family holiday can be incredibly difficult and that’s before you have delved into planning activities that everyone will enjoy.
Lonely Plant has named Chicago and Singapore as top destinations for a family escape, citing the child-friendly parks and museums as key attractions.
Party holiday
Travelling for a countries nightlife is still incredibly popular, and there tends to be nightclubs or bars in most destinations around the globe. However, Lonely Planet highlights Belgrade as the top-priority for nocturnal party-goers.
With floating nightclubs and jazz acts in vibrant tower blocks, the capital of Serbia is fast-becoming a hotspot for drinking holidays.
Skyline views
Everyone loves a skyline view, and no one will be surprised to find out that Lonely Planet names New York as one of the best destinations to visit. However, for those that have already been there and done it, the travel specialist highlights Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seattle, as other destinations that provide stunning views.
Take in wildlife
Nairobi’s National Park is the top suggestion from Lonely Planet, due to its 100 square kilometres of wilderness that is home to wild animals such as rhinos, tigers and lions.
Cape Town also receives a mention, thanks to its diverse ocean wildlife, whilst Rio de Janeiro is also home to a number of impressive bird species.
Stunning food
Although it may not boast loads of Michelin stars, Lonely Planet names Melbourne as one of the best destinations for those in love with food, due to its strong level of mid-range dining that features cuisines from all over the world.
For something a little closer to home, Spain’s San Sebastian is also named, thanks to its pintxo bars and traditional food.
