UK business travellers miss their bed more than anything else when away on work trips, a new universal study has revealed.
According to Egencia’s fourth edition Business Travel and Technology Survey, 36% of global travellers revealed that beds and family were missed most.
The survey sought the opinions of 4,521 business travellers aged 18 and older from nine countries, including France, the United States and the UK.
French business travellers revealed that 42% miss their children the most, whilst 28% struggle with life without their bed whilst away on work trips.
The most missed thing globally was found to be spouses with 50% revealing it is their most missed comfort, with that number rising to 55% when looking at just the UK respondents.
As business travellers are missing family members and beds the most, it is no surprise that more companies are choosing to offer time off as compensation rather than other travel-related perks.
However, global travellers still value class upgrades, non-stop flights and in-flight wi-fi more than additional time off when it comes to their overall satisfaction on business travel.
Somewhat surprisingly, only 26% of UK business travellers believe that extra time off would help them increase productivity, whilst the figure is even less globally (25%).
Frustrations for business travellers include difficulty finding a hotel close enough to their destinations, so 37% end up booking further away than desired.
The survey comes as Airbnb has just announced plans to ensure business travellers no longer use hotels when on their trips.
The company has now introduced a category consisting of four million homes, offering convenient services such as 24-hour check-in, which is targeted at business travellers.
Business travel is currently worth around 10% of Airbnb’s total business, however David Holyoke, Airbnb's Global Head of Business Travel, believes that number could grow to 30% by 2020.
