The Rosa Khutorski resort in Sochi, Russia, welcomed more than 800,000 tourists during the 2016/2017 winter months.
As a result, the resort was the most visited in Russia during the winter season and it continues to develop its offering to travellers.
The resort is the site of ten hotel projects which account for more than 1600 rooms, with some still under development.
In addition to the hotels, more than 30 bars, cafes, restaurants and nightclubs have been opened at the resort.
As it stands, more than 94 kilometres of ski trails have been built, with varying levels of difficulty, making it a desirable place for the most experienced skiers and those new to the sport.
The resort was opened in late 2011, and just a few months later hosted World Cup alpine races in the downhill and super-combined events for both men and women.
Rosa Khutor also took centre stage during the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which were based nearby in Sochi.
Since then the resort has established itself as a leader in ski tourism and has been recognised as Russia’s Best Ski Resort by the World Ski Awards for the past four years.
Recently, the resort set about improving its offering to family travellers, and now boasts a number of hotels that include children clubs and a number of ski and snowboard instructors.
Due to the scale, Rosa Khutor is the largest ski area in Russia and a season can last up to 140 days a year due to its ideal climate and the fact that it boasts one of the largest artificial snow systems in Europe.
During the summer months, ski slopes are replaced by active holidays that include mountain biking and Segway activities.
If you’re thinking of travelling abroad this year, be sure to organise your ski travel insurance in advance
