More families are travelling with easyJet than ever before, new booking figures for the airline reveal.
In the 12 months until the end of March 2017, 15.5 million family passengers flew with the airline – a jump of more than two million on the previous year.
The 15% year-on-year rise means that family groups of travellers are now responsible for more than 20% of easyJet’s annual total of 74 million passengers.
According to the airline, families have also proved to be more loyal, with more than 83% having travelled on easyJet before.
Interestingly, the peak months for family travellers – July and August – are usually centred on school holidays. However, the biggest increase in bookings occurred between December and February, with a surge of 36% highlighting growing demand for winter breaks.
The UK market had the biggest growth in family passengers, with year-on-year figures rising by more than 750,000.
easyJet believes there are numerous reasons behind the growth, listing a rising number of destinations and initiatives which help parents with luggage such as buggies and car seats as key factors.
Families have also revealed that convenient booking offerings have also had a positive effect on their choice to fly with the airline.
Peter Duffy, easyJet Chief Commercial Officer, has pointed parents in the direction of the airline’s website, where they can find a dedicated section on travelling with children, packed with videos and other useful information.
A recent report from Mumsnet – a parenting website – highlighted that easyJet is making travel a lot easier for families, allowing them to enjoy more of their holiday rather than getting stressed.
easyJet ensure all family members sit together when flying on one of their planes and have even changed their food offering to make on-board meals healthier.
