More than 25 million genuine guest reviews appear on the Hotels.com website and now the company has used these to reveal the world's best loved hotels in its 'Loved by Guests Awards 2017'.
The awards came from intense analysis of millions of guest reviews with 2,500 hotels across 87 countries being recognised as outstanding. The Loved by Guests Gold Award top prize winners all achieved an average guest review rating of 4.7 out of 5 or higher.
US and UK
The survey found that hotels in the US were the biggest gold award winners with 969 achieving the top accolade. The runner up country was the UK where 171 hotels bagged the same trophy. In a city by city breakdown, London came out on top with 31 gold award-winning hotels, Rome was second with 27 and Prague in third had 25.
Only 17 hotel superstars scored a full 5 out of 5 from each and every review they received in 2016, marking them out as truly the best loved. Of these, ten were in the UK, three were in Italy, there was one a piece in the US, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
The survey also had a 'Best in Class' award to single out hotels for those looking for a great beachside getaway or a relaxing spa experience, among other things.
There were 1,000 hotel winners in the Loved by Guests 'Best for' categories which also included other bespoke categories such as Luxury, Business, Boutique, LGBT, Ski, Family, New and All Inclusive.
Taylor L. Cole, APR, travel expert for Hotels.com, said: “The Loved by Guests awards celebrate those top notch hotels that guests really loved and wanted to tell everyone about.
“We're finding reviews are becoming more powerful than ever and in fact many travellers are preferring to book based on guest reviews rather than official star rating. Think of how many times you've chosen a hotel because you've been scrolling through reviews on your smartphone and read about its comfy beds and fantastic breakfast.”
