Royal Caribbean's newest vessel, the cruise ship Symphony of the Seas, will become the biggest of all time when it is delivered next year.
In April 2018, the cruise line will become the owner of the record-breaking ship, which will overtake the current record holder – which is also owned by the company – Harmony of the Seas.
The new ship will have unique features which are yet to be unveiled, but it is known that at 1,188 feet long and 215 feet wide, the 16-deck vessel weighing in at 230,000 gross tonnage will be the biggest in the world.
The ability to carry 5,494 guests at double occupancy means it surpasses the 5,479 that Harmony of the Seas can accommodate. 2,775 guest rooms, a 10-storey Ultimate Abyss waterslide with a 100 ft drop and seven themed “neighbourhoods” on board are all examples of the scale of the new ship.
Crown of Miami
A new 170,000 sq-ft “state-of-the-art” cruise terminal in Port Miami (Terminal A), billed as America’s “most innovative cruise facility”, will be home to the new vessel. The new terminal has quickly earned the nickname the “Crown of Miami” due to a striking crown-shaped design that can be seen when viewed from the water.
The construction is expected to be completed by late 2018 for the arrival Symphony of the Seas, which will have spent its inaugural summer season from April to October 2018 in Europe. The vessel will set sail for its first Caribbean itinerary on November 17 and these will continue through to April 2019.
Royal Caribbean fleet
When Symphony of the Seas is launched, Royal Caribbean’s total fleet will number 26 ships, which already includes the all-suite Seven Seas Explorer, dubbed the “world’s most luxurious cruise ship”.
Seven Seas Explorer has some of the most spacious and luxurious cabins every seen on a cruise liner and includes extravagances such as Murano glass chandeliers and crockery created by Versace.
