Passengers flying with BMI regional will soon benefit from a new approach to the popular airline’s baggage allowance policy. The new amended policy, which will also affect seating, is aimed to make things even more simple and straightforward for those travelling with the carrier.
Every BMI regional customer will still receive a standard free baggage allowance and this has been upgraded to 23kgs with no extra cost to the passenger.
There will also be an option to pre-book a preferred seat in advance. This can be done online or via the customer contact centre up to 48 hours before the flight, with charges of only £8 for a standard seat or £15 for one on an exit row which usually offers extra leg room.
Customers will also find that it is now much easier to take extra luggage on a BMI regional flight as the airline has also introduced the option to pre-book additional luggage and sporting equipment online.
This means that sporting equipment and extra bags each weighing up to 23kg can be pre-booked online, for fees of £45 and £40.
Passengers can also use the contact centre or book extra baggage at the airport. This carries a set fee of £80 each way for each piece of luggage and £45 each way for sports equipment.
For those passengers who choose not to make pre-flight arrangements, excess baggage will still be taken at airports and the cost will remain £10 per excess kilo.
Chief commercial officer of BMI regional Jochen Schnadt said the changes are part of a wider strategy to simplify the airline’s product offering.
“With our focus on quality and convenience of service and by carefully listening to our customers, we believe that our new baggage and seating policy will give customers greater flexibility, greater choice and make travelling with us even easier,” he said.
