The popularity of low cost flights throughout the UK continues to fuel the expansion of budget carrier Norwegian and sees it launch a brand new route from Edinburgh to Barcelona.
The twice weekly flights depart on Wednesdays and Saturdays and more than 15,000 seats are available to book now.
City, sun and sand
Norwegian is the only airline flying out of Edinburgh that offers passengers free in-flight Wi-Fi on their brand new 186 seat aircraft.
Chief Commercial Officer at Norwegian, Thomas Ramdahl, said: “We have major expansions plans at Edinburgh as our affordable flights are continuing to be a huge draw for Scottish passengers."
“Last year was our busiest ever at the airport with over 200,000 passengers flying with us and now holidaymakers can combine city, sun and sand with Norwegian’s new affordable flights to Barcelona," he added.
Five business and leisure destinations are already served by Norwegian from Edinburgh Airport with more than one million passengers travelling to Malaga, Tenerife, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo since the carrier began operating from there in 2009.
Barcelona is not only one of Spain's most important cities it is also the capital of Catalonia.
Its Mediterranean culture and traditions mean that there is a wealth of history to tempt visitors, as well as some of the best contemporary gastronomy in the world too.
Although the city itself has a popular beach front, nearby coastal villages are also extremely popular, as are visits to the many vineyards that lie just beyond the city.
Whilst the Catalan capital is Norwegian’s sixth route from Edinburgh Airport, the carrier is also considering new transatlantic flights to offer affordable choice flights to major world long haul destinations.
