For many years pre-internet, the city guides published under the Time Out banner provided invaluable insight for travellers visiting a wide range of destinations across the world.
Now the Time Out Group has acquired HallStreet, an award-winning geo-mapping start up, for an undisclosed sum as it seeks to maintain a high profile presence in a totally different marketplace.
The global travel and leisure market has benefited from the impact of HallStreet and its revolutionary interactive events and travel planner which is based on maps.
Now Time Out's investment in the technology represents yet another vote of confidence. The combination of meta-search with interactive ecommerce is an evolution of the platform because it allows end users to discover information easily and use it to book the best experiences in a city –much in the same way that traditional pre-internet printed versions of Time Out publications used to do.
Now the acquisition will help Time Out Group build on its already extensive online presence to offer even more of a joined-up service.
Following the deal, HallStreet’s two co-founders, Chief Executive Alfredo Ouro Villaraviz and Chief Technology Officer Antonio Rodríguez de la Torre, have relocated from their HallStreet offices in Barcelona and San Francisco to Time Out's global headquarters in London, becoming Time Out employees in the process.
Villaraviz is now Time Out Senior Vice President of Product and reports to the Chief Executive, Noel Penzer, while de la Torre has been appointed Director of Technology Travel and reports to the Senior Vice President Engineering, Jim Beattie.
HallStreet's engineering workforce will also become Time Out employees but will continue to work from Barcelona.
Executive Chairman at Time Out Group, Julio Bruno, said: “We've been looking at a number of technology start-ups that further enable our vision for the future of travel and leisure distribution.
“The HallStreet platform has reinvented the way people plan trips and leisure activities, using dynamic maps in a clear, simple, end-to-end and stress-free experience.”
