Winners of the World Travel Awards 2015 were announced at a plush red carpet event at Morocco's luxurious Mazagan Beach & Gold Resort.
The World Travel Awards Grand Final 2015, which this year welcomed more than 300 worldwide industry leaders, was established in 1993 with an aim to recognise, celebrate and honour a standard of excellence within all the different sectors of the tourism industry.
Key geographical areas
With guest lists that include industry leaders and government officials alongside global broadcast and print media every year, the World Travel Awards (WTA) holds a series of regional gala ceremonies that reward achievements in each key geographical area.
Graham Cooke, President of the WTA, explained: “Each of our Grand Final nominees has been recognised as a regional leader during our Grand Tour 2015, and this evening we were able to salute the best of the best – the elite of international tourism.”
Seven straight years
This year the coveted award of World's Leading Airline was won yet again by Etihad Airways. Winners now for seven years in a row, the Abu Dhabi airline is the second largest in the United Arab Emirates and operates over 1,000 flights per week.
For Brits looking for a touch of grandeur in Vietnam it's worth noting that the World's Leading Luxury Resort award was won by InterContinental's Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. However, Al Faisaliah Suites in Saudi Arabia were double award winners on the night taking home the titles of both the World’s Leading Luxury Suites Hotel and World’s Leading Hotel Penthouse.
A hallmark of quality
Amongst the other winners at the WTA 2015 were Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas, which was judged to have the World's Leading Hotel Website in the technology sector. The UK's Frasers Hospitality also became World’s Leading Serviced Apartment Brand titleholders.
Meanwhile, Turkey's Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa was crowned as World’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort and the Las Vegas Strip was named as World’s Leading Tourist Attraction.
