Brits could make significant savings when buying their Christmas gifts if they go to New York, according to a new report published by Post Office Travel Money.
The yearly Christmas Shopping Guide reported that travelling to the US could potentially see shoppers save three figure amounts even though the price of Sterling has recently dropped against the Dollar.
The findings come at a time when American tourism figures report that for 88% of Brits travelling to the USA, shopping is the main focus of their trip, with just under 30% favouring New York as the go-to destination.
The Holiday Confidence Index is a quarterly survey of UK holidaymakers and the most recent results showed that 10% of everyone polled was planning on visiting the USA.
When comparing the prices of more than a hundred different products in London, Dubai, Paris, Barcelona and New York, the Christmas Shopping Guide found that there were savings of over 60% to be made by Brits willing to travel across the Atlantic.
The biggest bargains on offer were in American designer label clothing lines in New York with famous brands such as Hollister offering the most savings for shoppers. A Hollister Colorblock logo men's hooded top was just one of the many items listed in the Christmas Shopping Guide, retailing at under £17 in the Big Apple compared to £45 in London. Hollister along with Abercrombie and Fitch were both singled out as places to head for the most savings with many items less than half the price of those in the UK capital.
These two leading youth brands were not alone in offering significant savings to savvy shoppers. For those shopping for children's presents a saving of 49% could be found on a Minions Tumbling Talking Stuart toy, while lovers of beauty products could save just over 41% on the price of Elizabeth Arden's award-winning Eight Hour Cream, even after the addition of 8.875% sales tax.
If you are planning a Christmas shopping trip, don't forget to arrange your Budget Travel insurance before you travel.
