Home loving Welsh holidaymakers prefer a staycation to travelling abroad, leading more families to choose to holiday in the UK instead of spending their time further afield.
A new survey by Back-Roads Touring has revealed that a staggering 90% of Welsh holidaymakers remain in Wales when taking their annual trip away.
Staying in the UK
Unsurprisingly, the beautiful Welsh countryside appears to play a huge part in the decision over whether to stay in Wales or experience the rest of the UK while holidaying at home.
More than 60% of respondents said that the beautiful scenery and natural landscapes are the most common reasons for enjoying a staycation but this isn’t only true in Wales.
Almost half (45%) of those asked said they also loved the stunning beaches and coastlines found in the rest of the UK which makes it hardly surprising that the research found other Brits were keen on home-grown holidays.
Travelling the world
On the other side of the coin, many Brits also showed interest in seeing the world and travelling abroad for their holidays – especially Londoners.
They are the most likely group to go abroad and the least likely to visit UK destinations, naming the Inca Trail, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat and Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow as some of their preferred destinations in which to seek out historical and cultural landmarks.
Interestingly, Scotland came out as a nation of foodies by claiming that being able to experience locally sourced food and regional dishes was important when choosing a British holiday location.
Meanwhile those from the Midlands were the most interested in visiting British beaches and those from the South East preferred a staycation involving a choice of cultural and historical British sights.
Whether you are holidaying at home or abroad this year don’t forget to book your budget travel insurance in advance
