Spain is set to enjoy one hell of a summer with the popular destination attracting more jet setting Brits to its shores than any other beach resort.
Research by leading beach holiday specialist On the Beach revealed that their last minute holiday booking trends report show that Spain is dominating the list of go-to locations for Brits.
When it came to Brits looking for the best last minute deal, the likes of Majorca, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Ibiza were at the top of their list while the Turkish resort Dalaman came in at fifth position.
Attracting more Brits
While Spain most definitely dominates the list overall, Cyprus has seen the largest increase in last minute bookings from British holidaymakers with an increase of 44% when compared to last year.
This is closely followed by Egypt which is enjoying a 22% increase and Turkey which has shown a 19% rise in bookings.
The list of biggest destinations reporting the biggest growth is completed with the Greek mainland and islands (+17%) and Spain (+16%).
A drop in prices
When considering the reasons behind the uptake in holiday bookings it seems that lower prices are prompting more Brits to book breaks away.
Resorts across Turkey now offer the cheapest last minute deals compared to one year ago, with the average holiday being 15% cheaper while Croatia’s prices have dropped 10% over the same period.
Holidays in Greece's Halkidiki and the Balearic Island of Menorca are also cheaper; by 6%.
Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach, commented that while Spain is dominating the last minute holiday market, there are other cheap destinations for Brits to keep in mind including Cyprus and Egypt.
He said that British holidaymakers have clearly had enough of the rain and wind in England and are heading to hotter climes ready for some last minute summer fun.
If you’re jetting off abroad this year, don’t forget to book last minute travel insurance in advance
