Parents on the lookout for affordable holidays believe the Balearic Islands offer the best value for money, according to recent research by Post Office Travel money.
When taking the cost of meals, drinks and other tourist staples, nine in ten parents revealed that the cost of the resort was the most important factor when it came to deciding where to spend their holiday cash.
Getting the most for our money
Moreover, the strength of the pound was also a huge factor for 60% of British holidaymakers, while 91% stated that the cost of international flights was the most important consideration to make before booking a holiday.
A staggering 88% of those parents polled agreed that the Balearic Islands offer the most bang for their buck.
Located in the western Mediterranean Sea, the Balearic Islands are considered to be Europe’s most popular holiday destination for people of all ages. While the likes of Ibiza and Majorca are known to be the party islands for youngsters; the quieter islands of Menorca and Formentera are increasingly appealing to families looking to top up their tans.
Of those surveyed, 82% said that the Canary Islands were also good value for money and with 81% stating they had very positive experiences when visiting Spain, the Spanish islands seem a clear winner.
Going over budget
With prices dropping by 16% in both Menorca and Majorca, British families have even more reason to travel to Spain this year.
The report also found that while parents argue cost is the most important factor when choosing a holiday retreat, surprisingly, only 25% of those who budgeted £715 to pay for meals etc during their last holiday stuck to this amount.
The Post Office found that over half of families overspend on their budget while on holiday by a whopping 30%.
Andrew Brown from Post Office Travel Money said it is great news for British holidaymakers that prices have tumbled in many European destinations.
Do you fancy making the most of the cheaper prices this year? It’s important to remember to book family travel insurance in advance.
