Those looking to book their 2015 holiday getaway can now add North Korea to their list of potential destinations.
North Korea, a famously reclusive state, has been little visited by Western travellers over the past few years, but that is about to change, with their beach resorts becoming easier to access this summer.
A “stunning and gorgeous” break away
Young Pioneer Tours are currently organising their very first dedicated beach holidays to the sandy beaches of Wonsan, Hamhung and Kumgang, described by the firm as “stunning and gorgeous”.
Moreover, those Brits looking to interact with the North Korean locals will be glad to know they will have the opportunity to play a game of volleyball or football on the beach while other activities, such as hiking up Mountain Kumgang will also be available.
The adventure travel company has also advised that the restaurants and bars along the beach offer “cheap” seafood with the chance to relax and drink soju.
The CEO of Young Pioneer Tours, Gareth Johnson, said trips to North Korea can be quite “hard going” for British holidaymakers as there are lots of monuments to see and a lot to learn about the history of the country.
Enjoying a traditional beach holiday
However, the firm have added Pyongyang and the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) to the trip for Brits wanting a little extra alongside a traditional beach holiday.
He noted that North Koreans partake in the same beach activities as westerners do “but with less bikinis” as the women tend to dress more “conservatively”.
Johnson has advised that the climate is extremely similar to that of Japan and South Korea, meaning that July is the perfect month to enjoy a beach holiday.
If you’re thinking of taking advantage of the North Korean beaches, it is important to ensure you have last minute travel insurance booked.
