It’s time to forget the likes of Majorca and Tenerife and bathe in the delights of the Greek islands after they’ve been named the best in Europe, according to a recent report by Trivago.
Comparison site Trivago looked at 140 million reviews from a total of 200 global booking sites to find the top 30 European islands that tempt travellers.

The report found that the Greek islands dominated the list of the top 30 best islands in Europe, according to reviews on accommodation in local hotels.
Greece coming out on top
Trivago’s study looked at islands located in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Croatia; but it was the Greek ones that came out on top.
Italy wasn’t too far behind Greece; with Capri coming in at fourth position and Lipari in ninth. The Portuguese island of Madeira was also ranked at position ten due to its popularity among older travellers.
Denise Bartlett from Trivago commented that it is interesting to see that while the Spanish islands are the most popular holiday destination for travelling Brits, it is the Greek ones that are the highest quality.
She also noted that this research presents the typical British holidaymaker with alternative locations to travel to rather than the “typical summer resorts”.
The top ten islands ranked were:
If you’re thinking of travelling to one of the top ten islands this year, it’s important to book European travel insurance in advance.
