With consumer confidence growing fast and spending on the up, more Brits will be adding a mini-break to their ever busy calendar this year according to a new report conducted by YouGov.
Holiday trends 2015
The YouGov study found that consumer spending while on holiday is set to increase from £2,112 (in 2014) to £2,303 per family household in the next 12 months.
A massive 75% of UK adults are expected to take a holiday this year but shorter mini-breaks are rising in popularity over the traditional one or two week holiday.
In total, almost half (49%) of Brits are expected to spend their money on these short excursions during 2015 with beach breaks remaining one of the most popular choices.
As much as 29% of individuals expect to enjoy this type of holiday in 2015 while 24% are planning a city break and 22% will visit family and friends as their short-break.
Purchasing holidays abroad
The YouGov BrandIndex highlighted that these statistics are fantastic news for high street travel agents.
A metric by YouGov looked at whether a respondent would consider purchasing their trip away from a brand.
Thomas Cook performed particularly well on this metric with their score hitting its highest point for 12 months at +25.
The YouGov data also looked at who takes what kind of holiday.
It found that package holiday seekers typically choose a beach holiday from companies such as TripAdvisor, Lastminute.com and Thomas Cook whereas luxury holidaymakers pay for high quality services and products such as Hilton Hotels and Emirates.
The latter group of individuals was also found to be more responsive to radio advertising; highlighting a key marketing tool for brands to use when targeting this group.
