One of the perks of heading off on a business trip is the opportunity to spend a night or two in a new location at the company's expense.
Now, new research has revealed that business travellers' aren't shy about their love of an overnight stay while on business, with 60% admitting this is one element of their trip they most look forward to.
This finding comes as part of a survey of 1,000 business travellers commissioned by Hotel Solutions Provider HRS which also revealed that business travellers use their free time on a business trip - an average of four hours - to make the most of their surroundings.
When not tapping away at their keyboards or attending conferences, business travellers can be found enjoying hotel facilities, getting some much needed shut eye or catching up with their nearest and dearest on the phone. 11% of business travellers questioned also ventured out of their hotel for a spot of sightseeing while on their business trip.
For some business travellers a trip away for work purposes presents the perfect opportunity to socialise with others with 6% using their time away to socialise with colleagues, while 2.5% do so with friends.
Commenting on the figures, Jon West, Managing Director of HRS in the UK and Ireland, said:
“Despite people often bemoaning the fact that they have to stay away on business to their colleagues, the findings show that in reality some people see a night away as a perk of the job. This could also suggest that people are using this as an opportunity to escape the daily routine of home life and seeking to recharge their batteries before returning back to ‘the norm’.”
Further insights from the survey revealed that many business travellers manage to combine business and pleasure on their work-related getaways. In fact, almost 50% of those questioned revealed that they extended their time away post-business trip to enjoy some quality time with their spouse or partner.
With an average of 17 nights a year spent on business trips, it's important to organise business travel insurance in advance.
