Budget airline easyjet has revealed that its expects today (September 5th) to be the busiest flying day in its history with 1451 flights taking 210,000 passengers across the airline’s network of spanning Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
The airline argues that as well as travellers being keener than ever to snap up its low fares the end of the school holidays and travellers’ desire to enjoy one more slice of sun, sea and sand before the colder weather sets may also contribute to a spike in flights.
Alicante, Barcelona and Malaga are among the most popular sunspots among leisure travellers, according to the airline, while business travellers – who make up nearly a fifth of easyJet’s passengers – favour Paris, Amsterdam and Geneva.
Sophie Dekkers, easyJet’s UK Director, said:
“We always find that our busy summer season continues well into September as many of our customers take advantage of schools going back, our low fares and fantastic range of destinations. We’re delighted that so many passengers have chosen to start their late-summer breaks with us.
“We always strive to make our passengers’ journey as easy as possible, and offer all our customers online check-in up to 30 days in advance, mobile boarding passes and live flight updates on our flight tracker tool so they can keep constantly updated even while on the move.”
