Finding a holiday that offers the perfect combination of sea, sand and something for the kids to do can be a challenge.
However, luckily for us Brits we don’t even have to hop on a plane to find a destination that will serve up fun for all the family. According to research commissioned by Holidaylettings.co.uk, Cornwall comes out on top in a ranking of family-friendly holiday destinations around the world. And with its own microclimate, stunning stretches of beach and more it’s not hard to see why Cornwall ticks many of the boxes for holidaying families.
Those who baulk at the idea of a ‘staycation’ will be comforted to know that a number of destinations abroad also made it into the top 25 ranking. Following Cornwall’s lead is the ever-popular Orlando, Florida - home to attractions such as Disneyworld and Universal Studios – and Majorca and the Costa del Sol in 4th and 5th place respectively (Devon actually placed 3rd!).
Commenting on the research findings, a spokesman for Holidaylettings.co.uk, said: “If you have young children, there is so much to consider when deciding when to go on holiday, where to go and what accommodation to stay in. 'Not only do you need to choose somewhere that is safe for children, but you also want somewhere that has plenty of things to do, food that fussy kids will be happy to eat and also a journey which will be as stress-free as possible.
“And it seems Cornwall is the place that fits the bill. It only involves a few hours in the car and you can be confident there will be the right food and plenty of activities to keep your children busy.” Explaining why Orlando slipped into 2nd place, he added: “While Orlando might have the theme parks that children dream of, the high temperatures and long travelling time can push it down a parent's wish list - at least until the children are a little older.”
The research also revealed the top family holiday priorities, with pretty beaches claiming the top spot followed by flight/journey time, kids' swimming pools, on-site entertainment and a good attitude to children. If you are heading on holiday as a family, it is important to organise family travel insurance in advance.
