Stephen Fry has turned his hand to many a role over his illustrious career including comedian, actor, writer, presenter, director, and activist. Now it seems that Fry could also have another string to his bow, in a starring role as the nation’s favourite holiday companion.
QI host Fry has presented several travel documentaries and this may be exactly the reason why he took the top spot in the RadioTimes.com poll of celebrity holiday companions.
Fry’s lead (31.79%) was followed by, David Beckham (13.8%), Michael Palin (10.25%), Alan Carr (7.17%) and Dawn French (6.9%). From the list of those who took the top five it appears that having a fine tuned sense of humour is one of the key facets of the ideal celebrity holiday companion. Commenting on the survey findings, Jade Bremner, Radio Times travel editor, said: "I'm not surprised at all, Stephen Fry is a born traveller and would charm the pants off anyone you'd meet on your trip.
Earlier this year current Superman star Henry Cavill came top of the list of male celebrities that women would most like to go on holiday with. The research was conducted by holiday website Latedeals.co.uk and asked 1000 British women aged between 18 and 35 to name their top three make celebrities. Nearly half of all those questioned named Cavill, with long time favourite David Beckham only managing to come second with 42%.
Actors Gerard Butler and Ryan Gosling, along with swimmer Tom Daley, made up the rest of the top five. Cavill’s rise to the top of the list follows on from the news that he will be wearing the red cape again next year to reprise his role alongside Ben Affleck who will play Batman.
Whoever you choose to head off on holiday with don’t forget to take out travel insurance before you go.
