Budget carrier Ryanair has announced that it will be boosting its offering from Stansted airport next year, with the launch of 12 new routes from April 2014.
New routes to Basel, Bordeaux, Brive, Bucharest, Comiso, Dortmund, Lisbon, Osijek, Podgorica, Prague, Rabat & Skelleftea will be added to the airline’s Stansted schedule bringing the total number of routes to 126. The airline also announced that it will be upping the number of flights on its 17 existing routes, increasing the weekly flight total from 430 to 600, as well as improving schedules.
Welcoming the changes, Chief Executive of MAG, the country's largest UK-owned airport operator whose airports include Stansted, Charlie Cornish said: “Today’s announcement by Ryanair is fantastic news for Stansted, the region and the passengers who rely on the airport to provide a connection to and from all parts of Europe. The new destinations and increase in flights on key routes will offer passengers and businesses even more choice at great value and build on the strength of Ryanair’s extensive network at Stansted, the airline’s largest base in Europe.”
According to reports in Bloomberg Russia’s aviation authority has granted Ryanair permission to fly to Moscow and St Petersberg from Dublin airport. While Ryanair would be able to operate flights to Russia from Dublin airport it would not be able to fly to Russia from any other European country.
Robin Kiely, a Ryanair spokesman said: “Ryanair has had discussions with a number of Russian airports, but they are purely exploratory at this time.” If Ryanair were to begin operating flights to Russia it would follow in the lead of low-cost carrier easyjet which now operates flights to Moscow from Gatwick and Manchester airports.
Earlier this year Tripadvisor revealed that following the opening of flight bookings on the route in January, the site had seen a staggering 99% increase in traveller searches for accommodation in Moscow. If you are planning a trip abroad in 2013 it is important to secure travel insurance in advance.
