Yes these really are the ingredients for a perfect honeymoon!
The combination of sun, sea, sand and the sound of lapping waves have always proved a hit with travellers and now it seems that the mix of ‘must-have’ holidays ingredients is not-so different for newlyweds heading off for the trip of a lifetime....except for the £5,000 price tag and a hefty dose of adrenalin filled activities that is!
A survey travel company Kuoni, has revealed what those couples who’ve just said ‘I do’ want from their perfect honeymoon, and while a wish list including champagne on arrival and candle-lit meals for two will hardly come as a surprise, others may.
Instead of soaking up the sun, or walking hand in hand along the beach for the entirety of their honeymoon, newlyweds are keen to spend at least a third of their 14-day break being the ultimate culture vultures and soaking up an area’s historical and cultural sites. According to the research findings, newly married couples are also keen to carve out two days of their honeymoon to sample more adventurous activities including cage diving with sharks, Segway's, scuba diving and zip lining...who knew?
And despite the UK only just pulling out of a recession, the headiness of newly married life means that the couples are prepared to completely blow the budget for the honeymoon of their dreams, splashing out as much as £5,000.
Commenting on the findings, Derek Jones, managing director of travel experts Kuoni, said: "This shows that couples still want that romantic beach idea with unparalleled service and excellent hotels in places like Mauritius and the Maldives, but they are also leaning towards a more active, cultural and authentic experience on honeymoon.
"People are no longer content with a week or two lounging around by the beach or pool, instead newly married couples are hoping for a bit of adventure, they want to learn more about the country they are visiting and return home with tales of the amazing things they have seen and done” If you are planning your dream honeymoon, remember to take out travel insurance in advance of your trip.
