According to a new survey, just over a third of Brits don’t hire cars while on holiday because they are too scared to do so. Airporttransfers.co.uk asked over 2,000 Brits about their holiday transport options and the results were every interesting.
Of all the people who took part in the survey, 39 per cent said they didn’t normally hire a car, while 25 per cent said it depended on where they were staying. 36 per cent of people said they did usually hire a car.
When asked about the reasons that people didn’t tend to hire cars when they holidayed, the main reason cited was that they were too scared to drive on the other side of the road. This was true for 41 per cent of people, while 22 per cent of people said that they just couldn’t afford it.
When asked about driving abroad, a number of people said they had concerns about driving on the wrong side of the road or had fears about accidents or car theft. However, those who did hire cars said they did so because it was more convenient than getting buses or taxis. When given the choice between a hire car and an airport transfer, 52 per cent said they would prefer the transfer.
Chris Clarkson, managing director of Airporttransfers.co.uk said: “Airport transfers can often be a cheaper and easier option for those not wanting, or are unable to hire a car when abroad. When you take into account the cost of renting, petrol and insurance it really can add up, so transfers are definitely a viable and often more affordable option.”
Further figures from the survey revealed that 36 per cent of those questioned said they holidayed abroad once a year, 33 per cent said they travelled abroad less than once a year and 15 per cent said they were lucky enough to go away twice a year. Only 9 per cent of those asked said they never went away. If you are planning on hiring a car, you need to research the road laws of your destination country and also ensure you have car hire excess insurance.
