Next month three Britons will be flying to Australia to join 15 other finalists in competing for Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World’ competition.
London’s Holly Easterbrook will be vying for the role of Chief Funster in New South Wales, Scotland’s Jo Muskus will compete for Park Ranger in Queensland and Brighton’s Rich Keam for Taste Master in Western Australia.
Candidates from twelve countries have been chosen to face the challenges set by the states and territories. They include making inspiring tourism videos and writing exciting blogs about their experiences. They will also have to handle the scrutiny of an impromptu media conference and be expected to demonstrate the necessary skills required by the job in order to win.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McAvoy said: “After six weeks, 620,000 applications by 330,000 individuals from 196 countries, 46,000 video entries and thousands of supporting references from some of the most famous celebrities in the world we are down to the final 18.”
He added: “It’s show time. The candidates now face their very own Australian working holiday - a week of tests and challenges which will ultimately decide who ends up winning these six dream jobs.” Finalists were selected on the basis of a thirty-second video and ability to get a high profile endorsement and publicity in support of their video. They will be flown to Australia by Virgin Australia and face challenges over the course of a week.
Getting your dream job Down Under sounds almost too good to be true but for six lucky people the dream will become a reality. Of course, for those of us not lucky enough to get our dream job in Oz, we can still visit and take a few weeks to explore this incredible country. Book some travel insurance and flights, and head off for a week to see what life would be like in Australia.
