They say the best things come in small packages, and this is definitely true for Essex’s Southend Airport after it came out on top in a recent customer satisfaction survey.
London’s official sixth airport fought off competition from potential contenders including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and City airport to achieve an impressive 92% score in easyJet’s satisfaction survey of 26,000 passengers. Southend was given the thumbs-up for a number of facets from the check-in process to the boarding procedure and the quality of service offered by staff.
Individual scores included 98% for the length of time waiting for check in, with 100% satisfaction for the 'the efficiency of check-in staff'. “At Southend we work hard to ensure we deliver on our commitments to passengers – that they should wait no more than four minutes to go through security and that, on arrival with hand baggage, they are on the rail station platform within 15 minutes of leaving the aircraft,” said Alastair Welch, Southend Airport’s managing director.
“We hope that even more passengers will choose to come and experience London's newest airport. We designed our new facilities to be "simply easier", and we are thrilled that so many of easyJet’s passengers agree.”
The airport has said that passengers will only face a four-minute wait for security, while those with hand luggage can get from plane to train in 15 minutes, or 30 minutes if waiting for baggage. Southend Airport started earning its glowing reputation in the swinging sixties, when it was the third-biggest airport behind Heathrow and Manchester.
Last year easyJet launched flights from the airport to a number of destinations including Amsterdam, Barcelona and Belfast. From February flights will also operate to Venice, with departures to Berlin, Krakow and Newquay beginning in June. If you are planning a holiday abroad, it’s important to secure travel insurance to ensure that you are covered for every eventuality.
