Holidaymakers heading to foreign shores with low-cost airline easyjet can now look forward to an even faster booking process thanks to the new passport scanning feature on the airline’s award-winning mobile app.
The app, which is available to both iOS and Android users, has been downloaded 10 million times and has also won a string of awards, including ‘Best Mobile Booking Solution’ at the Mobile Travel and Tourism Awards 2014, and ‘Best B2C App’ at the Marketing on Mobile Awards in 2013.
James Millett, easyJet’s Head of Digital, said:
“Our new mobile passport scanning function will save time for the millions of customers who use the app to input their travel documentation details. It’s another example of innovating to make travel as easy as it is affordable with easyJet.”
“We’ve developed the new function in partnership with credentials management service Jumio to ensure details can be scanned in easily, safely and securely. Combined with our mobile boarding passes, customers can now check in on their mobiles up to 2 hours before flights in 110 of the airports easyJet fly to across Europe.”
As well as updates to its mobile app, the airline has announced that it is opening an Amsterdam base in spring 2015, as well as announcing six new routes from Amsterdam. These are as follows:
The increased schedule will mean that the airline will be operating 154 flights each way per week between the UK and the Netherlands.
William Vet, easyJet’s Commercial Manager for the Netherlands, said:
“easyJet will bring a balanced and mature offering to the Netherlands. This will grow in line with our passenger needs. Basing three aircraft in the Netherlands will bring more choice for Dutch passengers and lower fares. It will also help to boost local tourism and economic growth with the creation of hundreds of jobs and increased passenger numbers.”
If you are heading on a European holiday in the coming weeks and months, it is important to organise European travel insurance in advance.
