Bermuda – an island paradise just waiting to be discovered

BermudaBermuda, a British Overseas Territory in the middle of the South Atlantic, offers a picturesque holiday escape, especially in the winter months.

And with direct flights from the UK, you could even escape for just a weekend if you really wanted to – although you probably won’t want to leave.

From an array of exciting water sports to a vibrant nightlife, Bermuda has plenty to offer to both the younger and older generations.

It’s also a popular location for divers, as a number of shipwrecks litter the coral reef surrounding the islands and visibility is good. Other reefs can be accessed by snorkelers if you don’t fancy going all out.

Tourism is huge on the island, and when you see the crystal blue ocean waters and pink sandy beaches, it’s impossible not to see why.

St George’s is packed full of history and is listed as a World Heritage Site, while the Royal Navy Dockyard is home to a number of museums, including the Bermuda Maritime Museum.

Meanwhile the Crystal Caves house numerous stalactites and underground saltwater pools, providing an idyllic surrounding in which to relax.

Getting around

Car hire on the island was a thing of dreams until fairly recently and many residents still opt to travel around on motorbikes or cycles.

However, there is now an alternative, as a company called Current Vehicles hires out a fleet of fully electric Renault Twizys.

The tiny two-seater eco-friendly cars provide the idyllic way to explore the archipelago, where you’ll find seven stunning islands linked by bridges.

And you’ll have enough juice to go from one end of the chain to the other and back again, as Bermuda spans just 26 miles.

If you do plan to hire a vehicle to explore Bermuda, you may wish to consider purchasing care hire excess insurance to cover the excess pay-out should your vehicle be damaged or stolen.
