Toyota expands popular Dublin car club

ToyotaToyota has unveiled plans to more than triple the size of its pioneering car club in Dublin, taking the number of vehicles from 30 to 100.

The brand’s Yuko short-term car hire club has proved so incredibly popular that they are now considering branching out to others cities.

At the same time, all of the new fleet of vehicles will be hybrid electric, as the firm places a greater onus on environmentally friendly cars.

Yuko launched in 2016, with Toyota deciding that Dublin offered the perfect opportunity for a test run given its relatively small size and limited availability of public transport.

As well as reducing congestion in the city, Steve Tormey, chief executive of Toyota Ireland, has said the car club also cuts the level of car parking required on new build developments.

The car club involves a sign-on fee alongside monthly membership, with users able hire vehicles for €8 an hour, with fees including on-street parking, insurance and fuel for 50km.

Yuko – meaning ‘let’s go’ in Japanese – initially started with 15 vehicles that were available from three points across Dublin.

Such was the early popularity though that it quickly expanded to cover the entirety of the city, predominantly as it provides an alternative, yet highly flexible, means of transport.

Hybrid versions of the Yaris, Auris and Prius were among the cars first introduced by Toyota, although the C-HR and Prius Plug-In Hybrid are now also in use.

For members of a car club and those who regularly hire vehicles, it’s important to know what cover you have when it comes to insurance.

If your vehicle is damaged or stolen, then you will likely need to cover the excess of any claim which may add up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

Car club excess insurance can cover against these outlays, so get a quote today and see if you could benefit from added cover and peace of mind.
