Cyprus set for record breaking tourism figures in 2017

Corrsion1Figures from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation have revealed that the country is on track for another record-breaking year when it comes to tourism.

In the period between January and October 2017, there were 3,408,473 global arrivals, which is a 14.6% increase on last year when 2,974,412 people visited.

During 2016, Cyprus welcomed 1,157,978 UK visitors to the island, while in just the first 10 months of this year that number has already reached 1,174,358.

Orestis Rossides, UK director of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, said: “We’re delighted to have already surpassed 2016’s arrival figures by the end of October 2017.”

As well as being a popular destination in the summer, thanks to its warm sea and hot weather, Cyprus has proved to be attractive option for travellers looking for some winter sun.

Sunvil, a specialist travel operator, have reported a 30% year-on-year rise in the number of passengers that have visited Cyprus.

The operator has revealed that they have seen an increase in the number of couples visiting the island looking to discover some hidden delights.

Brits travelling to Cyprus can reach Larnaca International Airport in around four and a half hours, meaning winter sun is not far away.

Rachel Jelley, Sunvil’s Marketing Manager, believes that spring can be the perfect time for Brits to travel as they can get a good price and experience all of the flowers in bloom.

The island is also home to some stunning wine routes in the mountains, which can be perfect for those looking to rent a car and explore.

Just to the north of Platres lies Caledonian Falls, the highest waterfall in Cyprus, while the accompanying trail offers fantastic opportunities to experience local plants and wildlife.
