Leading ski operator reports surge in all-inclusive bookings

Ski1Club Med has seen a 35% surge in the number of ski bookings during 2017, as travellers still look to head overseas despite Brexit uncertainty.

The all-inclusive operator revealed the dramatic increase in its annual Mapping Ski Trends report, which found that Brits are opting for all-inclusive breaks to protect themselves against any changes in currency.

The ABTA Travel Trends Report 2017 also shows that there has been a rise in the number of travellers booking all-inclusive breaks, with a 7% increase recorded in the last year.

One of the key aims of Club Med’s report was to find out what customers really think of the ski holiday industry and what they like to do apart from skiing.

The firm’s packages were found to be particularly popular among first time snowboarders and skiers, who add up to almost half (47%) of its customers.

Families account for 33% of its guests, while groups of friends and couples make up 21% and 20% of the operator’s client base respectively.

In recent years travellers have been eager to enjoy experiences away from the slopes, and resorts have been keen to cater by investing in spas, swimming pools and impressive restaurants.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a bar is the most desired addition to a ski holiday, with 67% of holidaymakers naming it as their top priority.

Just over 35% enjoy using spa facilities, such as a steam room or sauna, while 30% prefer to take a dip in the swimming pool.

It seems food also plays a big part, with 36% revealing that they would choose a resort based on the number and quality of local restaurants and bars available.

More than 40% of skiers and snowboarders also revealed that they prefer a winter-sports holiday to any other trip.
