High speed rail project takes significant step forward

Desert1The development of the Hyperloop has taken a huge step forward, after the high-speed rail project successfully completed its first full systems test.

Hyperloop One conducted the first stage of the development on the company’s 500 metre long test tube track in the Nevada Desert.

The Hyperloop is a transport system that could allow travellers to get from London to Edinburgh in as little as 50 minutes, revolutionising the tourism sector.

If successful, the system could propel travellers through a vacuum at speeds of up to 760mph, although the first test saw the pod only reach speeds of 70 mph.

Stage two of the development will see the speed increased to just under 250mph, whilst the company also tests the vehicle’s motor, suspension, electromagnetic braking and vacuum systems.

“For the first time in over 100 years, a new mode of transportation has been introduced. Hyperloop is real and it’s here now,” said Shervin Pishevar, co-founder and executive chairman of Hyperloop One.

By achieving full vacuum during the test, Hyperloop One essentially invented their own sky in a tube, as if they were flying at 200,000 feet in the air.

As well as the test, the company also revealed a prototype of the ‘pod’ that will transport cargo and travellers inside the tube.

To date, several countries, including the USA, Australia, UAE and India have already expressed an interest in the project.

Earlier this year, the company announced a number of potential Hyperloop routes in Europe, including Spain to Morocco and a 1,237-mile journey across Germany.

Josh Giegel, Hyperloop One co-founder, believes Europe is the perfect region for one of the world’s first Hyperloop systems.

If successful, the technology has the potential to radically change not only tourism but also everyday life, making travel cleaner, safer and faster.
