North America most desired holiday region amongst Britons

MountainsAround a quarter of people have revealed that a trip to the US would be their ideal travel destination if cost was not a factor, according to a new poll.

Following North America, the second most desired region was Oceania and Australia followed by Europe, Asia and South America in a poll carried out by media agency Starcom.

The poll revealed that 53% believe flight delays are the biggest holiday frustration, followed by illness, sunburn, insect bites and accommodation transfers.

On average, a person goes away twice a year at a cost of £1,347.33 which equates to around 5% of the average UK salary.

However, around a third of travellers (29%) do not save up before their holiday, despite £137 billion being spent on holidays a year.

More than a half of respondents – 2,000 people were surveyed – indicated that they go away on holiday to escape day-to-day life and experience new cultures.

Interestingly, a small number of respondents (3%) admitted that they only go on breaks so that they can show off on social media channels.

According to the research, the average person has travelled to ten different countries, with 63% indicating that they would choose to go somewhere new over a place they have visited previously.

Starcom UK Chief Executive Pippa Glucklich, believes we are becoming more adventurous with our holidays and expects our habits to change as the travel sector innovates further.

Despite a wide range of economic and political uncertainty, holidays seem to be one of our most valuable and important experiences.

The survey also revealed that the most adventurous travellers come from the North East of England and Wales, with 74% and 73% respectively preferring to go somewhere new, followed by those living in Northern Ireland and London.

If you’re thinking of travelling abroad this year, be sure to organise your multi-trip travel insurance in advance.
