British visitor figures hit an all-time high in Croatia during 2017

Croatia1New figures from eVisitor indicate that British visitor figures to Croatia are at an all-time high, with a 28.94% rise in arrivals recorded in June this year.

From the start of the year to the 15th of June, Croatia has seen 190,479 arrivals and 885,166 overnight stays in total.

A large majority of the overnight stays were made in Dubrovnik-Neretva County (369,419), Split-Dalmatia County (212,158), Istria (178,601) and Zadar (42,478).

This considerable rise is largely down to an increase in the number of flights now offered by airlines which link the UK to key cities in Croatia.

There is a total of 20 new flights on offer to Croatia from various major UK airports, including new Monarch flights connecting Gatwick and Manchester with Zagreb and British Airways flights from Heathrow to Pula.

The majority of British overnight stays since January were made in hotels or private accommodation, however, campsites have seen a considerable upturn in visitors.

In just the first week of June campsites around Croatia have seen a 57.91% rise in interest when compared to the same time last year.

Ivona Grgan, Director of the UK Croatia National Tourist Office said: “There’s no doubt Croatia is becoming more attractive to the British visitors every year, and is reinventing itself as the all-year-round destination.”

Zagreb – the capital of Croatia – was recently awarded the title of Lonely Planet’s Best Destination in Europe in 2017 which highlights the countries growing popularity amongst tourists.

Lonely Planet’s Editorial Director Tom Hall explained that Zagreb topped the list because it ticks all of the boxes, in terms of attractions, weather and culture.

Many travellers decide to head straight to the coast, meaning they miss out on the dynamic culture and a thriving food and drink scene.
