Air Canada Rouge launches London to Vancouver route

Landscape1Air Canada Rouge has launched a new seasonal service from London to Vancouver in order to deal with a growing demand from travellers.

The new service will operate three time a week from London Gatwick to Air Canada’s hub at Vancouver International Airport – rated the best airport in North America for an unprecedented seven consecutive years.

“We successfully launched our London Gatwick-Toronto service last summer and we are pleased to introduce our second seasonal service from London Gatwick today,” said Stephen Gerrard, Air Canada general manager, sales, UK & Ireland.

As of April 2017, international arrivals now use the airport’s Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIK), which scan travel documents and take a photo to speed up border security.

Running on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, all flights are timed to optimise the connectivity through Air Canada’s Vancouver hub.

In 2016, more than 10 million people visited Vancouver, which is the highest overnight visitation figure recorded in the city’s history.

The UK is Vancouver’s fourth highest market when it comes to tourism, behind China, the U.S.A and domestic travellers.

It takes around ten hours to travel to Vancouver, and the route is operated by 282-seat wide-body Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

Vancouver – which is often referred to as the principal gateway to the famous Canadian outdoors – is well renowned for its tourist attractions, and boasts a number of festivals, galleries and museums to interest travellers.

Guy Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer, London Gatwick Airport, welcomed Air Canada Rouge’s new service from London Gatwick and insists the route will provide an important connection between the two countries in terms of leisure and business.

Vancouver was also named Destination of the Year in the 2016 edition of the Luxury Travel Guide Awards.
