UK business travellers inspire surge in Eurostar ticket sales

Eurostar has benefitted from a 9% increase in UK business travellers during the first three months of 2017.

The significant increase in corporate business has contributed to the train operator seeing sales revenue increase by 15% to £232 million, when compared to the same period in 2016.

Business travel has proved to be a huge driving force for Eurostar, with overall corporate passenger numbers rising by 6% from January to March 2017.

The high-speed Channel Tunnel train operator has recently improved wi-fi connectivity and opened a new business lounge in Paris, making sure that travel is as easy as possible.

There was also growth in the number of passengers travelling from outside of Europe – 13% more US customers used the service, alongside an 18% increase in those from the rest of the world.

Other factors have also driven growth, such as the favourable exchange rate and new state-of-the-art trains which offer increased capacity.

Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar’s CEO, believes the train provider is in a great position to take advantage of the growth in visitors travelling to Europe’s top destinations.

Eurostar is also planning improvements for passengers travelling from London to Brussels, who will soon be able to experience the new e320 trains and benefit from the renovation of the Eurostar terminal in the Belgian capital.

Over the course of the next 18 months, Eurostar plans to introduce 17 new e320 trains and continue the refurbishment of the original trains used on the route.

Passengers will also be able to enjoy Eurostar’s onboard entertainment system, called a ‘sound menu’ which contains music chosen by a psychologist.

The playlist consists of a wide range of music aimed at relaxing passengers so they can focus on their work.

Dr Alexandra Lamont, Senior Lecturer in Music Psychology at Keele University, developed the menu with Sony and the digital team at Eurostar.

If you’re thinking of travelling abroad this year, be sure to organise your business travel insurance in advance.
