Budapest hotel crowned best in the world by TripAdvisor

The boutique Aria Hotel in Budapest has been crowned as the world’s best in 2017 by TripAdvisor guests.

The online and review booking site has named the winners of the Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2017, which are based on millions of reviews and opinions from travellers on properties in 117 countries.

Leading the top 10 list is the five-star music-themed boutique hotel that is just a few minutes’ walk away from St. Stephen's Basilica in the heart of Budapest.

The hotel – which costs £235 a night – is well renowned for its design which is inspired by different types of music, with different wings of the hotel relating to classical, opera, contemporary and jazz.

Mandapa, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve, located in Ubud, Indonesia, finished in second place and is renowned for offering a piece of paradise.

Half of the hotels listed in the top 10 are found in Europe, including Turin Palace Hotel, Turin, Italy; Hotel the Serras, Barcelona, Spain; BoHo Prague Hotel, Prague, Czech Republic; and Portrait Firenze, Florence, Italy – who finished third through to sixth respectively.

The four-star Turin Palace Hotel is located right in the centre of town and offers travellers a unique atmosphere and plenty of modern amenities.

The Shinta Mani Resort, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, finished in seventh place and has been recently renovated to take travellers to the heart of the country.

Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa, Hanoi, Vietnam – which finished in fourth place last year – and Tulemar Bungalows & Villas, in the Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica, finished in eighth and ninth respectively.

The Maldives was also represented on the list, with the A Manafaru hotel, located on the island of Haa Alif Atoll, sneaking in to tenth place.

TripAdvisor spokesperson Hayley Coleman said: “Unlike other hospitality awards, these are based on feedback from actual guests over the past year, which is what makes them so prized within the industry.”

If you’re thinking of travelling abroad this year, be sure to organise your multi-trip travel insurance in advance.
