Universal Studios Hollywood named best attraction in the world

Universal Studios Hollywood has been named as the best attraction in the world at the AttrationTix tourism awards.

Over 23,000 public votes were cast for the 2016 awards, while a panel of expert industry judges made the final decision.

Winners were announced across 19 different categories for the Worldwide Attractions Awards, with the US taking home 9 of the awards.

Joining Universal Studios Hollywood as a winner was the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in the best cultural & historical attraction or tour category and The Empire State Building, named as the best observation deck.

In an interesting turn of events, Devon came first for the best summer holiday destination, beating San Francisco.

Gondola rides in Venice also managed to claim the most romantic attraction in the world category, outplacing the hugely popular Eiffel Tower.

In the UK, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, where visitors can explore the magical world of the world-famous Harry Potter series, was voted the best attraction in the UK.

The Land of the Lions, located at ZSL London Zoo, was named as the best animal encounter, whilst the London Bridge Experience and London Tombs was awarded the best horror attraction or tour.

The awards highlighted the wide range of tourist attractions based in London, with the Crystal Maze, in Angel, London, named as the best attraction for team building and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, was voted as the best attraction in the capital.

The panel of experts for the awards included Simon Applebaum, Managing Director at AttractionTix; Pippa Jacks, the editor of travel industry publication TTG Magazine; and travel bloggers Karen Beddow and Megan Jerrard.

Mr Applebaum, said: “It's always hard to choose between exceptional attractions around the world, offering such varied experiences with lots of glowing reviews and happy memories.”
