The Lanesborough named as Europe’s top luxury hotel in report

HotelThe Lanesborough in London, located near Buckingham Palace, has been named as Europe’s top luxury hotel in a report compiled by U.S. News & World.

The five-star hotel is the priciest in the capital, with the cost of rooms ranging from £540 to a massive £26,750 a night.

Popular celebrities such as Madonna and Leonardo DiCaprio are regular visitors to the hotel, which underwent an £80 million revamp following a management takeover from German Oetker Group two years ago.

One of the main attractions for guests is the food, which is cooked by a three Michelin-starred chef, as well as champagne picnics, 24-hour butler service and a luxurious cigar lounge.

The Lanesborough beat 2,100 high-end hotels in more than 40 countries to be named as the winner in the report.

London proved to be prominent in the list, taking up four places in the top ten, including The Beaumont in Mayfair, which finished in seventh place.

The Corinthia near Embankment and the Milestone in Kensington, both five star hotels, finished in eighth and ninth place respectively.

Italy had a strong presence in the rankings, with Hotel Santa Caterina, Amalfi Coast, in second, and J.K Palace Roma, located in Rome, in third. Palazzo Avino, also located on the Amalfi Coast, finished in fourth.

Paris is well known for having a wide range of luxurious hotels, and the landmark Four Seasons Hotel George V, located just off the Champs-Élysees, finished in fifth place, whilst the Hôtel Plaza Athénée crept in at tenth.

The lavish art nouveau-style Four Seasons Gresham Palace in Budapest, overlooking the banks of the Danube river, claimed the sixth spot.
