Britain jets off for October half-term
Brits are prepared to escape this week in search of sun, with families especially keen to enjoy the opportunities that half-term presents.
New figures from Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money have revealed that many individuals who enjoyed a staycation during the summer are now planning an overseas getaway.
Of the 40% of people who holidayed in the UK this summer, 15% are now set to bask in one last portion of sun before winter.
Venturing abroad is a popular choice, as 12% of people are planning a foreign break in the next few weeks – sales volumes peaked in the last few days and drop steadily upon the completion of half term.
But why October?
Well, for parents keen to find cost-effective trips, jetting off in October is considerably cheaper than the summer months.
Booking a last minute trip to Dubai, Dubrovnik or Santorini in October for example, was found to be around 26% cheaper on average than booking next July.
There’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun too – Italy’s Amalfi Coast, Morocco, Cyprus, and the Canary Islands all provide short-haul options.
If you fancy a longer flight in search of some heat, then the magic of Las Vegas, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bali and Australia might be right for you.
Alternatively, why not opt for a city break? Rome and Barcelona immediately spring to mind as good autumn destinations, while the many outdoor attractions in Athens are another option.
October tends to be quieter, meaning there’s less crowds to get caught up in, while it’s also easier to hire vehicles and get around your chosen destination.
All of this combined equates to a stress-free holiday experience – although it is wise to check exchange rates as the value of the pound against other major currencies is prone to major fluctuations of late.
If you’re thinking of travelling overseas in the remainder of this year, be sure to organise your Worldwide Travel Insurance in advance.
