Airbnb reveals 25 most affordable breaks in Europe
Airbnb has revealed the 25 cheapest city destinations in Europe, with Georgia, Serbia and Turkey found to offer the most affordable stays.
Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi is the cheapest listing on Airbnb – an online marketplace that enables people to list, find, then rent vacation homes for a processing fee – with a typical night only costing £24.
One such listing in Tbilisi is a converted mini-theatre, boasting chic furniture crafted by the owners themselves, which sleeps three guests.
The ranking, which is compiled only from cities that have at least 200 listings on the accommodation website, reveals Poland to be a great-value country, with three cities in the top 25.
The report also reveals underrated gems in eastern Europe and off-the-tourist-track alternatives in France and Germany.
Serbia’s Belgrade and Turkey’s Istanbul were tied for second, both costing £26.58 a night, whilst a night’s stay in Thessaloniki in Greece will only cost £27.39.
Further down the list are St Petersburg in Russia, and Kiev in Ukraine, where both destinations can cost just £28.19 for a night’s stay.
Poland was prominent on the list, with Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw all available for a typical nightly value of £31 a night.
The most expensive destination in the top 25 was Nantes in France, – which offers a bank account-friendly destination for those seeking an alternative to Paris – at a cost of £37.86 per night. This was just slightly more expensive that Palermo, Sicily, where a night’s stay can cost £36.25.
Other cities, including Vilnius in Lithuania and Catania in Sicily, offer a wide range of roof terrace apartments and luxury lofts for just £34 a night.
For as little as £36 per night you could also enjoy a stylish apartment in Slovenia's Ljubljana, Croatia's Zadar, Latvia's Riga and Toulouse in France.
