easyJet report a surge in September holidays for second year running

Beach1September holidays have proved to be more popular than those in July for the second year running, according to easyJet Holidays.

The holiday arm of the budget airline received 72% more bookings in September 2016 than in July, which is widely thought to be the peak booking period.

One of the reasons behind the surge is thought to be that people stayed at home so they could watch the Rio Olympics in August, whilst good weather and ‘incredible’ bargains have also been key factors.

Figures also show that September adult-only holidays lasted 5.6 days on average, around 13% longer than those taken in July.

Many of those looking to enjoy a holiday took advantage of easyJet introducing a low deposit scheme that required prepayment of just £60, with 26% of those travelling in September booking with only a deposit.

EasyJet Holidays general manager Mandy Round said: “We had a good July, with as you might expect a predominantly family driven market, but it is September holidays that have now become the most popular.

“There was a noticeable increase last year, but the fact it occurred for two years running would suggest it is an emerging trend.”

According to easyJet, the most popular destinations in September were the Costa del Sol and Costa Dorada, both in Spain, which saw 148.23% more bookings than in July.

Not far behind was Tenerife, which saw bookings up 109.62% when compared to July, whilst Rome attracted 93.1% more bookings.

Ms Round added that customers are using the experience of the airline to discover new destinations to explore, with the firm’s expanding programme of flights allowing “them to do just that”.
