Qantas and Airbnb partnership to boost airline’s loyalty scheme
Australia’s leading airline, Qantas, has partnered with Airbnb – an online marketplace that enables people to list, find, and rent vacation homes – to reward the 11.4 million members of the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme.
Customers will receive one point for every dollar that they spend whilst booking accommodation directly through the Qantas website on any of Airbnb’s 2.5 million accommodation listings, which span across 191 countries.
The deal is the first time that Airbnb has worked alongside an airline in this way, and it is an important step for the business to provide a more unique and personalised experience.
It is also a sign of the Australian flag carrier’s intent to form partnerships with innovative digital and technological businesses in order to provide what customers crave.
According to Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce, the deal is a natural fit for the two brands, who both want to make customers feel at home whilst they are travelling.
For Qantas, the deal also shows that they understand that the way in which people around the world plan, book and experience travel is changing with the introduction of digital technology.
Mr Joyce said: “We know many of our customers are just as likely to arrange an Airbnb as they are to book a hotel, and we wanted to recognise and reward them for that.”
One of Airbnb’s primary goals is to connect travellers with the hospitality of locals, and ensure that they feel like they are truly living in their destination, even if it just for a night.
Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky said: “Our announcement today with Qantas highlights the rapidly growing movement towards the personalised and unique experiences available through the Airbnb community.”
