Norwegian launches new routes to the Canary Islands from Manchester Airport

CanaryIslandsLow-cost airline Norwegian will launch two new routes to the Canary Islands from Manchester Airport this winter.

The flights will begin on October 30 and will operate twice weekly, taking off to Gran Canaria for the winter whilst non-stop year-round flights to Tenerife will launch from the start of November.

Brand new 186-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft will service the islands, providing passengers with live TV and free Wi-Fi on board.

Norwegian, which has already launched three new routes from Manchester this year, will also continue its hugely popular summer flights to Spanish hotspots Alicante and Malaga into the winter.

The new routes to the Canary Islands, along with the existing services to Stavanger, Stockholm, Oslo, Alicante and Malaga mean that Norwegian will now operate its busiest ever winter from Manchester – offering more than 65,000 seats and 17 flights per week.

Thomas Ramdahl, Chief Commercial Officer at Norwegian, insists the airline is committed to providing more affordable choices for passengers to Europe’s most sought-after destinations.

As it stands, the airline has already flown 80,000 passengers to and from Manchester this year, with the level of growth set to continue into next year due to the popularity of the flights on offer.

In June 2016, Norwegian introduced a summer-only route to Barcelona alongside new flights to Alicante and Malaga, bringing greater access to the Spanish mainland as a result and growing its route network of business destinations in the process.

Stephen Turner, Commercial Director at Manchester Airport, has expressed his delight that Norwegian chose to continue to expand its operations from Manchester.

Both Tenerife and Gran Canaria are hugely popular destinations for the airport's catchment area, which stands at 22 million people.
