Emirates launches interactive amenity kits which use augmented reality tech
Emirates has introduced the world’s first interactive amenity kit in economy class, which uses augmented reality (AR) technology to unlock content on customers mobile devices.
The bags come in six different designs including the Far East, Africa, Europe, Australasia, Middle East and Latin America, representing Emirates’ global network.
Inside the kits are all the necessities that are needed for extra comfort whilst on a long-haul flight including ear plugs, toothpaste and toothbrush, socks and an eye mask.
Flyers on the airline will be able to unlock a vast amount of entertainment on their mobile devices simply by scanning the bags using the app, Blippar, which can be downloaded via the Apple store or Google Play.
Emirates formed a partnership with Blippar, who are the world’s leading visual discovery and AR platform, in order to create content exclusive to the airline including health tips to make a flight more relaxing and comfortable, alongside other activities.
The Blippar app is also a Visual Browser which allows customers to experience more about the world around them. Customers can point their phone at objects already recognised on the app, such as food, clothing and technology, and receive extra information about them.
Plans are in place for the content to be continually refreshed every six months so regular flyers can look forward to new updates.
The bags from Emirates are a part of the airline’s continued effort for product enhancement and to improve the convenience and comfort for Economy Class passengers.
The entertainment on offer via the app complements Emirates’ award-wining inflight entertainment system – ice Digital Widescreen – which recently clinched its 12th consecutive award for ‘World’s Best Airline Inflight Entertainment’ at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2016.
