easyJet sees upturn in the amount of holiday-goers

FlightBudget airline easyJet has seen a jump in the amount of passengers than this time last year, announcing it welcomed 6.9 million travellers in June 2016.

The Luton-based carrier has seen a 5.8% increase in the numbers it reached in June 2015, with the statistics showing that the companies rolling 12-month passenger numbers have risen yearly by 7.1% to 71.8 million.

Despite the success, the airline was not able to avoid cancelling 852 flights throughout June, largely down to the French air traffic control (ATC) employee strikes.

The latest flight cancellations highlight the value of travel insurance, with cover allowing holidaymakers protection should industrial action force a flight to be scrapped.

Football fans looking to fly for the semi-finals of the European Football Championships 2016, featuring Wales and Portugal, were given an additional service in order to allow more to make the trip to France.

Whilst throughout the tournament staff have been keeping those on board up to date with the latest scores via Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System messages.

Even those who were eager to avoid hearing the result were given spoiler warnings before updates were given.

Also, the UK’s largest airline has launched its first flight from Manchester to Gibraltar, taking the total destinations that EasyJet flies to from Manchester to 45 – with over 2.6 million passengers flying to and from the airport last year.

The expectation is that easyJet will fly 30,000 passengers between the destinations annually, operating twice a week throughout this summer.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, insists the airline is delighted to launch the new route from Manchester Airport, insisting that the routes offered by the airline make it affordable and easy for business and leisure travellers to connect to a variety of destinations.
